Defining Responsible Sourcing

Responsible sourcing at Scales & Ember aims to minimize negative impacts while fostering positive outcomes for people, nature, and the planet. We prioritize traceable materials supported by third-party certifications to validate their sustainable credentials. Our criteria include:

– Organically-produced materials: Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Organic Content Standard (OCS)

– Pre- and post-consumer recycled materials: Global Recycled Standard (GRS), Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)

– Other responsible sourcing methods: Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), Responsible Down Standard (RDS), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Leather Working Group (LWG) Silver or Gold certifications

We have implemented internal guidelines to support responsible sourcing decisions across sourcing, product development, and design teams. Our Sustainability, Communications, and Digital departments collaborate closely to provide accurate and transparent information to stakeholders.

We monitor the percentage of responsibly sourced materials in our collections, aiming for styles containing over 50% responsibly sourced materials by weight to measure progress and drive continuous improvement.
